Black and white rooms are catching on like crazy and while looking for ideas for a black and white bedroom that I'm working on, I spotted these pictures where the walls had been painted with funky, black and white horizontal stripes.

What a wild look this would be with a set of damask print bedding or a black and white polka dot comforter set! The instructions said that they used a laser level to keep the stripes even, but they don't indicate whether they taped them off or just penciled in the borders of the stripes. I would absolutely have to use painter's tape or I would end up with wavy, uneven stripes.

One of the visitors here suggested some ideas for a black and white bedroom awhile back that included the combination of flat white ceiling paint and black semi-gloss or eggshell wall paint. I think that using that technique to paint these stripes would look very cool!

Well, because if a more sophisticated style of decor exists for a teen girl's bedroom than a Parisian theme with a famous French landmark smack dab in the middle of it...well, I just haven't seen it.

I love pink and black in a Paris theme bedroom because this color scheme is so feminine and is quite the fashion for today's diva girl. And we all know that fashion and style is what Paris, France is all about!

A teen girl asked me this interesting question awhile ago, "How many kinds of black and white animal print bedding are there"? The subject came up when she said she would like an exotic black and white bedroom but did not want zebra print bedding.

It wasn't that she doesn't care for or has something against zebra stripes, she just said that too many of her friends had already bought zebra comforter sets and had decorated their rooms accordingly. She said that she wanted to do something more original and that's when I suggested one of the other animal prints.

It never really occurred to me to sit down and make a list of all the animal print fabrics that are available in black and white. But since she asked and I probably need to write them down for future reference, here we go!

There is giraffe print, cheetah print, leopard print and the aforementioned zebra print. OH and I suppose cow print would fall into this category, too. There may be more but if there are I have never had the pleasure of working with them.

If I can't come up with a set of black and white animal print bedding that will tickle this teen's fancy, I wonder how black and white peacock feather fabrics would do in a set of a teen girls bedding? It just doesn't get much more exotic than a peacock feather even if they are in a monochromatic image.

BLACK and WHITE FASHION BEDDING

Leah called needing help with the purses and shoes theme black and white fashion bedding set that I had recommended to her. I blogged about this set awhile ago and it just knocked her out but it was expensive. Then, when I saw the ensemble go on sale I told her and she got her mom to order it right away!

She was so excited about getting the comfort set that I couldn’t imagine what the problem might be. The bedroom color scheme of hot pink, black and white was pretty straight forward and we had ascertained that there was no need to repaint the bedroom, so what was wrong?

I feared the worst in that I was afraid that the color combination might be TOO simple. This teenage girl loves bold and some might even say wild, colors and the only bright colors in this set came in through the fashion theme graphics of the accent pillows.

After a quick trip to her house to see if I could help her mom avoid shipping the fashion theme bedding set back I was relieved to learn that the young lady’s meltdown was not that big of a deal. She didn’t like the retro look of the pink Cadillac throw pillow that came with the black and white fashion bedding set but her mom loved it.

I have to admit that the inclusion of the vintage car changed the whole complexion of the girl’s bedroom theme from sophisticated to...well, something else. I don't have a think against an Elvis theme bedroom or a rockabilly bedroom but this style would have not been in keeping with this girl's personality and that's where this pink Cadillac design was taking us.

I was reminded today that looks can be deceiving. When I saw this black and white paisley bedding set, "damask print" was my first impression. Then I picked up the package to read the details of the fiber content, etc. and WHAMMO; those little amoeba shaped patterns just POPPED out at me.


Actually, to be fair, there are areas of the fabric that have damask print designs but the border of the duvet cover is made up of mirrored pairs of paisleys. Throughout the black and white paisley bedding set you will the solid black color in one area and solid white color on the other end and all reverse to solid white. The solid color fabric of the throw pillows as well as the solid white portion of the fabric of the comforter cover is surrounded by the unique damask paisley print combination. A dud of a bedding set gave me the inspiration for a black and white bedroom idea. A teenage girl I know was in despair because she didn't get the zebra bedding set that she wanted as a gift. While looking for a sophisticated black comforter set for an apartment bedroom, I was just about to throw my hands up in defeat when I came up with the idea of taking an affordable black bed in a bag that included everything down to the black bed skirt and turning it into something fantastic using sheets!

So far the college girl had been a hard sell on every design that I had presented to her. I thought that the bedroom decor was going to be a slam-dunk by the way that her eyes lit up when she saw pictures of a bedroom decorated with zebra print bedding and accessories until her friend who was looking at the photo album with her said that some preteen or tween kid she knew had a similar comforter set in her bedroom. After that untimely comment, bedding with zebra stripes was out.

With my deadline creeping closer with each passing day and the budget restrictions that I had to work with, I was under extreme pressure to come up with something inexpensive yet unique and cool enough to pass inspection. I began to feel like I was working for a cash strapped Paris Hilton when the plan for a perfect set of black and white teen bedding (with a solid black comforter as requested) fell into my lap.

The black bedding set that I had shown her previously was rejected because she didn’t want to fuss with a duvet. She said that even though a duvet cover was washable, it was too difficult to arrange on the bed in a neat and orderly way. Plus, she preferred fabric with a woven pattern or design. It would be perfect for an upscale French or Parisian style of décor.

I have seen instructions for decorative painting techniques recently that involved stenciling the fabric of chair cushions. What a unique way to give plain old solid color pillows a makeover! I went in search of stencil patterns that would make the do it yourself decorative painting so quick and easy that teens could manage the entire project from selecting some bad (read good) paint colors to making their own stencil designs. I can use my romantically inclined imagination to see some Eiffel Tower or other scenery found only in Paris used to decorate the walls for the ulimate in luxury and atmosphere! Perhaps some pictures of black and white polka dot fashion accessories with pink accents would really set off the bedding!



Then you will need some funky polka dot area rugs for the bedroom floors to keep those rosy toes from getting chilled! Big black and white polka dots on a square rug will look really cool with one corner tucked ever so slightly under the edge of the dust ruffle's stripes!

I don't have a clue as to why they show pictures of this girl's bedding collection with tan or light brown painted walls. I suppose they wanted to make as many photos as they can for a cheap price! I think you will come up with many more pretty teen bedroom decorating and wall painting ideas that will make these photographs look tacky!

Imagine what your preteen or tween would say if she walked in and her bed was decorated with this set of designer bedding. Or buy a pretty gift bag if you need a special gift for a birthday or other special occasion and let her decorate all by herself!
