BLACK and WHITE FASHION BEDDING

black and white hot pink purses shoes fashion bedding set comforter polka dot stripes striped

Leah called needing help with the purses and shoes theme black and white fashion bedding set that I had recommended to her. I blogged about this set awhile ago and it just knocked her out but it was expensive. Then, when I saw the ensemble go on sale I told her and she got her mom to order it right away!

She was so excited about getting the comfort set that I couldn’t imagine what the problem might be. The bedroom color scheme of hot pink, black and white was pretty straight forward and we had ascertained that there was no need to repaint the bedroom, so what was wrong?

I feared the worst in that I was afraid that the color combination might be TOO simple. This teenage girl loves bold and some might even say wild, colors and the only bright colors in this set came in through the fashion theme graphics of the accent pillows.

After a quick trip to her house to see if I could help her mom avoid shipping the fashion theme bedding set back I was relieved to learn that the young lady’s meltdown was not that big of a deal. She didn’t like the retro look of the pink Cadillac throw pillow that came with the black and white fashion bedding set but her mom loved it.

I have to admit that the inclusion of the vintage car changed the whole complexion of the girl’s bedroom theme from sophisticated to...well, something else. I don't have a think against an Elvis theme bedroom or a rockabilly bedroom but this style would have not been in keeping with this girl's personality and that's where this pink Cadillac design was taking us.

The teen girls bedding set and bedroom decorating ideaswere based on designer purses, high heel shoes and fashion models except for that pink vintage car. Never having noticed it before, it was now bugging me that it threw the black and white fashion bedding set into the realm of rockabilly. This was one time I sided with the teenager of the house.

Tell me, would you vote to keep the pillow or lose it? Or does it really not make much difference in the overall bedroom design?

PINK ROXY BEDDING

If you want a pink bedroom that your daughter will not think is too “baby” you need pink Roxy bedding. So many mothers have a hard time accepting that their daughter is growing up and wants a more mature style of bedroom décor. How many times have I had to offer a tissue for a customer to dry her tears as she spoke of how her teenage daughter outgrew her pretty, pink baby girl’s nursery that she had lovingly decorated for her too fast.

Thinking about how it’s going to hurt me when my last little chick leaves the nest makes me very sympathetic to this situation. But I also remember what it was like when I was a teenage girl wanting a cool bedroom that would make my friends green with envy only to have my mother want to preserve the decorations that I had had for years like she was turning it into some sort of outdated shrine.

I believe the answer to this bedroom decorating debacle is one of the cute, pink Roxy bedding sets. The great thing about a pink Roxy bedding set is that there is nothing babyish about it. Their designers know their way around this color and have one of the best approval ratings with teens and tweens of any company that I know of because of their ability to successfully sell bedding covered in hibiscus flowers just as well as comforters with hot pink and black polka dots!

The reason for the high level of acceptance is without a doubt due to their attention to detail in regards to what color schemes are popular as seen in the very well received brown and pink Roxy bedding and the Roxy tropical bedding sets. And it always seems that their fabrics coordinate well with pink wallpaper in the marketplace marketed towards this demographic.

So, the bottom line is that mom can dry her eyes because the right pink Roxy bedding that will let her have a few more years to enjoy her teenage girl surrounded not only with the love of her family, but with lots of what she perceives as the best color for a teenage girl’s room.

PINK AND GRAY BEDDING

Pink and black bedding has been all the rage for a while but don’t count pink and gray bedding out. In fact the addition of charcoal gray alongside basic black adds a whole new dimension or layer, if you will, to the black and pink.

For babies, pastels may be in order. But when shopping for keep your eyes on bright for something that is slightly bolder in a pink and gray comforter set for teenage girls’ bedrooms. This may be the perfect opportunity for putting those decorating ideas for salmon pink to good use that you have been hoarding inside your dream design folder for far too long.

FLORAL PATTERNS and PRINTS

Your daughter may have resisted floral prints in the past, but don’t let that stop you from suggesting flowers in pink and gray that are as far from anything that you ever saw in Granny’s garden.

STRIPES

I can imagine a background of hot pink with an uneven striped pattern in alternating dark black and gray. Or you might reverse that scenario and see how beautifully hot pink and dove gray pops on a fabric with a deep black background.

POLKA DOTS

The hot pink and white polka dots on charcoal gray include all the best elements of black and pink bedding only lighter.

THE PINK AND GRAY BEDROOM PICTURE

This pink, French poodle bedding set combines several decorative elements that are very popular with teenage girls, namely polka dots and Parisian bedroom ideas. The decorator started with a set of vintage, twin beds with carved pineapple finials and an antique reproduction black mini-chandelier that gave the bedroom just the slightest hint of shabby chic decor. The wall color is cotton candy perfection with the laser cut black and white polka dot wallpaper border and hot pink and black and white polka dot scalloped window valance. The teenage girls pink and gray bedding set is not an exact color match to the bedroom's wall decorations. But the comforters stay closely enough in the same color family that it all ties together very nicely.

You will not get any argument whatsoever from me that the current leader in pink and black wallpaper for teenage girls’ bedrooms is polka dots. Whether the dotted walls were created using polka dot decals and stickers or by using a stencil to paint the circles by hand; dots have ruled the roost for the best part of several seasons in the area of bedroom wall decor.

Far be it from me to suggest that the time may have come for black and pink wallpaper cutouts in polka dot designs to step down in favor of some other trendy color combination. Frankly, I am just as in love with them as when I decorated my first bedroom using them quite a few projects ago. But I must confess that I have been tempted to experiment using some of the cute
pink and black wallpaper borders that have just been released.

I would never suggest that pink and black stars, pink and black hearts or even
pink and black wallpaper with skulls to use as bedroom wallpaper to match the gothic bedding sets that goth girls love are an improvement over dots, just another option. There are even twisted, psychedelic checkerboard designs for retro bedrooms that when exposed to a black light that might give mom an aching head but tickle her daughter’s fancy for 1960s décor.

Other pink and black decorating ideas for girls bedrooms that I can hardly wait to try feature Parisian shopping scenes, wild animal prints like cheetah or zebra and shoes and purses for a little diva who hangs her hat on shopping for the latest, fashionable bedroom decorations.

Pink and black damask bedding may be a little bit more of a challenge to accessorize than black and white but what can I say, I needed something something fun to work on. So, pardon me if I welcome the opportunity to dabble in elegance from time to time. After several decorating projects where I worked with that particular monochromatic color scheme, I was ready for something a little more jazzy or at the very least, different.

And I have found that figuring out how to decorate a girl's bedroom with a pink and black damask bedding set can be rather interesting. One fact that revealed itself to me is how one would go about extending the life of the comforter set that might have been originally intended for a tween's bedroom.

Teenage girls might not be as receptive to demure black and pink hearts tied with satin ribbons as a preteen. But if you replaced the more immature wall decorations with dramatic chandelier stickers or scatter some pink and black stars or even skulls to give the bedroom an edge, that pink and black damask bedding set might be a keeper for a few more years.

SKULL BEDDING

Wouldn’t you know that I’d find this set of skull bedding just after I spent an entire afternoon of my time convincing a teenage girl who had her heart set on doing the Goth bedroom thing that the gothic trend may have run its course? Not being one to easily admit to being completely and totally off base, even I have to admit that this feminine skull and crossbones bedding set is so cute that it just might breathe some enthusiasm into a reluctant decorator such as myself who was never really able to wrap her head around the dark side of bedroom décor.

Skull and crossbones window curtains

As a teenage girl the idea of sharing a room with a skull comforter would have made my head spin like something out of The Exorcist. It was part of my bedtime ritual to have my mom or dad check under the bed and in the closet to be certain nothing evil had slipped in while I was away at school. To wake up in a bed decorated with grinning skulls and roses would have put me way too far out of my comfort zone.

Either I’ve become more valiant and brave as an adult or my tastes have changed because I find that this unusual set of pink and black skull bedding speaks my language. Pink and gray rooms have always been appealing to me so I may have to re-schedule an appointment with the girl who so adamantly tried to change my mind about decorating her bedroom and see if we might be able to reach a middle ground.

PINK AND BLACK DECORATING

Pink and black decorating is going to be a blast this spring! Sure, we’ve had the pink and black comforters and comforter sets around for a few years. But just when you think we have seen all that there is to this winning color combination the manufacturers tickle us well, pink, and show us that they still have a few tricks up their collective sleeves.

modern retro art deco table lamp

It’s obvious that they have reached back into days gone by to get the job done. But there’s nothing wrong with reviving old school glamour, sophistication or for that matter a little old fashioned collegiate decor and performing a little pink and black decorating using argyle print fabrics.

Pink and black wall message board

If you think that patterns taken from old fashioned knee socks that golfers use to wear pulled up to the bottom of their knickers that we have only seen in black and white films from your great-grandmother’s era can’t be inspirational; think again my dear. An attractive pattern is what it is. And what it is when you put that classic argyle graphic together with funky, modern colors in a pink and black bedroom for teenage girls is unbelievably striking.

So how do we successfully eliminate the image of old golfers and create an argyle bedroom design that is more in keeping with what teenage girls want for the bedrooms?

First off, don’t use those floor length argyle curtains. The window treatments and pink and black comforter set together in one small space is too much. Use a topper or a valance with shades, sheers, beads or blinds. Too much argyle or plaid will blow your pink and black decorating plans for your bedroom sky high.

Think chic, black and art deco or retro without going vintage in accessorizing this room. The print on your bedding set and curtains is enough. A retro black lamp on the bedside table and a pink message board decorated with black ribbons (and maybe some feathers around the frame) will repeat the X pattern of the argyle bedding without being too busy. And remember that an argyle bedroom is just one of the areas where we can put our black and pink decorating skills to work.

PINK AND BLACK BEDDING SETS - BUTTERFLIES, HEARTS and FLOWERS

The combination of pink and black is the epitome of chic.
Pink and black bedding sets for spring don’t leave polka dots and stripes behind. Rather they expand these bold graphics with the addition of hearts which can be ever so cool for Valentine’s Day, funky flowers and a few butterflies to round things out.

Layering shades of pink is the classic color favorite for girls of all ages. Black adds some contrast and bumps up the drama of your little queen’s bedroom a notch or two before she hits the boiling point and decides she wants ruby red to bounce off a black velvet background rather than dusty or hot pink.

Pink and black bedding sets with French motifs are nice. And who can argue with the fact that Paris in spring is by far the most romantic place on planet earth. But some teenage girls prefer pretty floral prints over Eiffel tower bedding sets covered in pictures of architectural icons or girls' bedrooms decorated with pink poodles.

Here are some bedroom decorating ideas for a teenage girl with a bad case of spring fever.

  • Pick up some lightweight nylon butterflies and suspend them from the ceiling of the bedroom.
  • Paint the walls of the bedroom pink and arrange black polka dot stickers or black vinyl flowers for eye catching visual impact
  • Buy a fluffy, pink or black faux fur area rug to put on the floor next to your bed that will show your bedding in pink and black off to its full advantage

The sheer mention of hearts and flowers might send your tween girl running for the door until she realizes that you have a clue on how to use a classic design in an ultra-cool fashion.

ROCK N ROLL BEDDING - DECORATE YOUR BEDROOM LIKE A ROCK STAR

The right set of rock n roll bedding should include any or all of the following decorative elements:

  • Cool colors. Lots of pink, black and other hot colors are best.
  • Graffiti
  • Your favorite punk rock band’s name or logo
  • Pictures of your favorite rock star
  • Electric Guitars

Rock and roll bedding should have an attitude. Ever since Elvis Presley made the scene, teenage girls have wanted to decorate their bedrooms with pictures of the musical idol of the moment. Because of the King’s affinity for giving pastel colored teddy bears to his most dedicated fans they were used as decorations for bedroom walls for the better part of the decade of the 50s.

Times have changed and punk rock stars rarely are associated with any icon less shocking than bright red roses. And even then, the long stemmed roses may be threaded through the empty eye socket of a skull.

The style of rock n roll bedding and comforter sets that is most often seen in the bedrooms of preteens and tweens at the time of this article is those that are part of the Hannah Montana product line. Hannah Montana guitar bedding sets and wall decorations are big hits with the teenybopper crowd. For young parents who want their newborns to be hip, there is plenty of rock and roll baby stuff in the stores.

Older girls who believe they are too mature for Disney Channel viewing tend to prefer their rock star bedding sets to be slightly more graphic; or at least as graphic as their moms will allow. The perfect rock band bedding for this teenage girl might be as middle of the road as having musical notes and electric guitars printed on the fabric or more band specific. It’s common for record companies to use every means possible to promote the latest up and coming rock band’s world tour or recordings with t-shirts, posters and now to the delight of many a devoted fan; rock n roll bedding sets.

TEENAGE GIRLS PINK and BLACK BEDDING

Hot pink and black bedding
for teenage girls alone might benefit from a little bit of lightening and brightening from time to time. This feat can be managed with a little bit of pretty powder or pastel pink and plain old fashioned white. A three color arrangement is almost always more interesting than two contrasting colors alone. An excellent example of this would be hot pink zebra print bedding and comforters.

The key is to layer the bold colors one on top of the other using the pastel or neutral shades as a background. By using fabric with black and pink patterns that bring in light colors as well as darker colors as accents, your teenage girls bedding set can lay a foundation for many decorating opportunities as well create a bedroom design that is cute and cheerful.

ACCENT COLORS for PINK AND BLACK BEDDING SETS

Bedding in pink and black alone without even a hint of another color can be rather limiting as far as what can be used in the way of accent pieces. I would advise against the use of more of the same colors that are found on the comforter and go for contrast. Depending on the balance of color found in your hot pink and black bedding set, I would experiment with contrasts of stark white or accessories with just a hint of pink.

FLOOR COVERING

Area rugs are perhaps the only area of this style of teenage girls’ bedroom décor where I would go dark. Fluffy, black faux fur rugs or hot pink flokati will keep your toes from getting an unwanted eye opener on frosty mornings while searching for your slippers while carrying the colors in your pink and black bedding and comforter set to other areas of the room.

Play with a contrasting color scheme in your throw pillows and decorative accessories on wall shelves to see what works best. But be sure to have at least one or two items in the room that reflect the exact shades found in the fabric of your comforter and pillow shams so that the décor will have a cohesive and flowing appearance.

DECORATING IDEAS for a SIMPLE BLACK COMFORTER

BLACK BEDDING SHEETS COMFORTER SETS

While looking for a sophisticated black comforter set for an apartment bedroom, I was just about to throw my hands up in defeat when I came up with the idea of taking an affordable black bed in a bag that included everything down to the black bed skirt and turning it into something fantastic using sheets!

Here’s the story of this black and white teen bedroom decorating debacle.

So far the college girl had been a hard sell on every design that I had presented to her. I thought that the bedroom decor was going to be a slam-dunk by the way that her eyes lit up when she saw pictures of a bedroom decorated with zebra print bedding and accessories until her friend who was looking at the photo album with her said that some preteen or tween kid she knew had a similar comforter set in her bedroom. After that untimely comment, bedding with zebra stripes was out.

With my deadline creeping closer with each passing day and the budget restrictions that I had to work with, I was under extreme pressure to come up with something inexpensive yet unique and cool enough to pass inspection. I began to feel like I was working for a cash strapped Paris Hilton when the plan for a perfect set of black and white teen bedding (with a solid black comforter as requested) fell into my lap.

The black bedding set that I had shown her previously was rejected because she didn’t want to fuss with a duvet. She said that even though a duvet cover was washable, it was too difficult to arrange on the bed in a neat and orderly way. Plus, she preferred fabric with a woven pattern or design. The customer is always right, so I agreed and went back to square one. Imagine how thrilled I was to locate a black bed in a bag set with a diamond pattern.

All that was left was to find a cheap set of crisp, white cotton sheets with a high thread count. I picked them up in an online bedding auction for a song and to make them look expensive and completely unique for this diva who demanded that her bed resemble none other; I had the head of the flat sheet monogrammed in a beautiful script.

I had the monogram on the white sheet sewed in black thread. I wondered how scrumptious it would have looked if she had selected pink sheets and a black comforter or bedding set. Think how incredibly stylish a set of hot pink satin (or cotton) sheets with a girl’s initials monogrammed in an elegant center medallion would be! It would be perfect for an upscale French or Parisian style of décor.

A solid black comforter and pink sheets might not be the ideal color scheme for this young lady but you can bet I filed this bedroom decorating idea away for future projects.

UPDATING TEEN BEDROOMS - QUICK, EASY MAKEOVERS

This picture of a teen bedroom is the perfect inspiration for a sophisticated pre-teen room design with high heels and a fashionable color scheme of salmon pink, black and white. The modern black and white swirling, geometric design on the storage trunk at the foot of the twin bed ties into the print on the pillow shams, the painting on the back of the rocking chair and the fabric on the wall hanging. The stripes on the border of the quilt that's cleverly used as a funky, decorative wall hanging give wonderful balance to the solid pink comforter and the wild, abstract monochromatic black and white print.

This is one of my favorite teen bedrooms that I've seen lately and at the moment it's available at a discount!

Do you want to update your teen’s bedroom and don’t know where or how to begin the makeover with the amount of money you have on hand? You aren’t alone, we often want to refresh the look of our homes and update them with a fresh modern look and we aren’t sure how to begin. Who can afford to start from scratch?

Designing a bedroom for your teen or tween you love out using stuff you have on hand may be more challenging than starting over with all new furniture, but it’s also cheaper. It may be difficult to imagine your existing furniture being used in different ways, but believe me that this is the best way to update your look on a limited budget. Here are a few ideas that can get you started:

  • Start with one area of the room. Decide if the focus will be on the bed, the window treatments or floor coverings. Don’t defeat yourself with attempting to update all of your teen’s bedroom at once. Besides where will she sleep?

  • Have your teenage girl provide a picture. It would be difficult to to copy it without starting from scratch, but you can at least get an idea of what the ultimate goal might be. You might be amazed at the good taste and knowledge of what’s fashionable and stylish that your little girl inherited from you! Plus, looking at photos of completely decorated bedrooms can pull you out of a decorating rut and help you to understand what your daughter’s favorite decorating style may be when she is not able to convey her ideas to you in words.

  • Ask your teen what she most wants to change about her bedroom. What a new bedding set and matching curtains do the trick or test the entire set of bedroom furniture set her teeth on edge?

If a full makeover is more than you want to tackle you might get by with updating the bedroom decorations items that most offend your teenage girl’s sense of what’s trendy and stylish and leaving the rest. Above all, get rid of as much clutter as you can. Those stuffed toys that have sentimental value might be the very items that will condemn the entire bedroom makeover and decorating process to disaster. Buy lovely storage boxes to store them in and convince here that her plush friends will still be around whenever she wants to see them.

Once you have removed the clutter, assess the situation and simply replace the items your daughter pointed out to you. You can completely change the decor in teen bedrooms by replacing the:
  • Bedding and comforters
  • Area Rugs
  • Window treatments
  • Wall Decorations
  • Throw Pillows
  • The headboard of the bed. This will give the bed a whole new look and feel to go along with the rest of your teen bedroom makeover!

This is the quick and easy way to makeover teen girl's bedrooms without breaking the bank, but just to be on the safe side start researching teen bedroom paint ideas.

So far as pink and black bedding for teenage girls that would be be perfect for teens and tweens, you have several fabric prints to choose from. Not many, but a few.

That's why you have to love the ingenuity that the manufacturer displayed when they rolled out not only a
pink and black comforter sets in zebra fabrics, but a patchwork quilt that incorporates hot pink faux fur blocks with black and white zebra.

The possibilities for such an eclectic design are rather interesting to say the least. The play of graphics one against the other brings me around to a retro, kind of Andy Warhol (if teens care to take a look at his art they will see what I mean) state of mind.

I'm not sure how I feel about mixing the less dramatic, watered down shades of pink as seen in the area rug in the example picture, but I have to give the funky, pink and black patchwork bedding set a positive review. This just goes to show that patchwork quilts are not necessarily country by nature.
