BROWN and PINK TOILE BEDDING

I wanted to start this article with the statement that brown and pink toile bedding sets of today are a far cry from the comforters and curtains that were once the staple of old homes and to say that they have been jazzed up which would be an understatement and that’s a fact. But then I made an interesting observation about decorating bedrooms with toile that took all the fun out of what would have been my opening line.

After looking through my stash of vintage home decorating magazines, I can’t help but notice one big difference in the way toile prints were used to decorate bedrooms is that apart from the rare bit of fabric seen pieced in a square of a patchwork quilt, toile bedspreads were not commonly used. At least I didn’t see any in the decorating books that I had on hand and after I gave it some thought I couldn’t recall any brown and pink toile bedding sets in either of my grandparent’s bedrooms or toile bedding of any kind for that matter. There were plenty of toile curtains and more than a few pieces of furniture with toile upholstery, my favorite being a pretty upholstered slipper chair in the bedroom, but no brown and pink toile bedding or comforters.

If memory serves me, the bedding that my great-grandmother preferred was chenille. And that stuff must have worn like iron because after she was gone, my mom used them for years. She washed them regularly and hung them on the clothesline where the sunlight could bleach them in the old fashioned, natural way. And it worked as they stayed snowy white until they became threadbare and she cut them up to use in her crafts projects.

Apparently my mom was pretty savvy as I see plenty of bedding collections that combine strips of chenille with other fabrics to give an otherwise uninteresting and flat comforter set added texture. In fact, a set of brown and pink toile bedding that caught my eye not only had borders of chenille, but strips of pink and brown polka dots and corners decorated with grosgrain ribbon both with polka dots and without. And what about those sassy pink and brown baby bedding sets for girls? If granny was here today, she might raise an eyebrow but somehow I think she’d approve of how we are decorating with toile today.

Pink and brown polka dot bedding with hibiscus flowers ought to be enough to get those creative ideas for decorating in pink and brown rolling in a very big way. Surfing scenes with shapes that hint of surfboards and waves that you see once in a lifetime when you are lucky enough to have a Hawaiian vacation booked at the peak of the season when surfing is at its best.

Don’t wait until you book your trip to Hawaii to decorate your bedroom in a surf theme. There’s no better way to set the mood than a cute, pink and brown polka dot bedding set. The great thing is that you can actually use your surfboards, your souvenirs and even your flip flops as bedroom decorations rather than to worry about where to store them when you aren’t riding the surf surrounding your favorite tropical island.

You have to study the Rhianna Roxy bedding set or at the very least take a second look at the comforter to see the unique way that the patterns and colors come together in a rather unusual and yet pleasing way. If someone had described the set to me without having seen for myself the successful play of patterns between the sheets, the pillow shams and comforter the picture in my mind would have been that of a train wreck rather than the sweet combination that it actually happens to be.

You have your large, hot pink and white geometric print on the comforter of the Rhianna Roxy bedding set as well as the pillow shams. But then they have thrown in pink and brown polka dots on the sheets and pillow cases. Then to top it all off there is an eclectic array of accent pillows, one with the famous Roxy logo, that by all rights should confuse things further but instead tie the package together with a neat little bow.

My question is that a pair of angel wings in pink on the square, black throw pillow or is it a takeoff of the Harley Davidson motorcycle logo? It really doesn't matter but I should mention that this particular pillow is the key to making the black and pink geometric design on the back side of the reversible comforter workable even though it is side by side with pink and brown polka dots.

If your little lady thinks too much pink is too much, pink and brown polka dot bedding will keep her bedroom feminine while enjoying the peaceful, soothing atmosphere that earth tones bring to a space. Darker colors alone might rush a sophisticated look that girls in their early teens and tweens aren’t ready for, so steps should be taken to keep the room balanced and age appropriate.

Pink and brown comforter sets don't have to be solid pastel pink on one side and dark on the other. Reversible duvet covers can be a good thing but for a teenage girl’s bedding, we want something lively, funky and bright! Once you get the color scheme right, patterns can play a big role in gently easing your teenage girl into her future role as earth mother.

PINK AND BROWN BEDDING

Pink and brown bedding sets with a polka dot print are one of my all time favorites. Not because I believe bedrooms should be bouncing with wild dots all over the place, but because you can mix and match so many different patterns. Upholster love seats and cushions in fabrics in pastel pink with brown accents or perhaps a rich and luxurious dusty rose and chocolate brown layout if you can manage it without making the bedroom seem too mature. So long as you stick with the same shades of pink and chocolate brown you will be amazed at the number of prints that will add fun as well as a stylish look to your bedroom makeover.

Of course, polka dots aren’t the only way to go. There are pink and brown bed in a bag sets for teens in paisley prints and retro flower power designs right out of the 60s. Once you decide that brown and pink are the way to go, the only remaining decisions are the decorative accessories for the remainder of the bedroom and of course shopping for pink and brown shower curtains to match.
