ISLAND BEDDING

A mother wrote to me asking if this set of tropical island bedding was appropriate for decorating a teenage girls bedroom. Frankly, the only thing that hit me was that teens and tweens aren't usually that into floral prints...tropical or otherwise.

Then I opened the second picture that she sent and saw the Hawaiian hula girl and thought, "Well, that's better!" only to read that the Hula girl was the bone of contention because some mean spirited friend made an off color remark about the girl having a thing for chicks because of the island theme bedspread!

How wild and crazy is that? I, personally, adore vintage Hawaiian print fabric and hula girls and don't see a thing wrong with this bedding collection. But the lady is asking for opinions from teens (not decorators) as to whether or not it will scar her daughter's tender psyche if she tells her that she has to keep the comforter set in spite of how against it she has now become.

What do you say? Keep the island bedding set or get rid of it and maybe replace it with one of the tropical Roxy bedding sets in a similar color scheme?

TROPICAL BEDDING

pink and green hibiscus tropical hawaiian bedding teen girls bedroom white set comforter

I’m still snuggling up in my bed surrounded by flannel at night, but lately tropical bedding is dancing through my brain like sugarplums. The chill of winter is still in the air so I’m not making my move to lighten things up for spring and summer in my own bedroom just yet.

But it’s a completely different story when it comes to bedroom decorating ideas for my clients. Most of the moms decorating rooms for their teen girls that I have met with recently have homes that are a work in progress yet they are enthusiastically gathering decorative possibilities for tropical bedrooms even though the work is a few months out.

Thankfully, lots of the stores have already rolled out some very cute tropical bedding sets with hibiscus flowers and pretty pink and green color schemes. One thing I’ve noticed is that hot pink seems to be cooling down just a touch. The shade of pink that is taking its place is more of a watermelon color and it looks fantastic with a honey dew melon shade of green as well as lime green. The requests for bold colors will probably pick up later in the year but for now the tropical bedding sets are fresh as an ocean breeze.

Have you picked out your comforter set or got your eye on a bed in a bag set in spring colors? Why don’t you take a minute and tell the visitors at Teen Girls Bedding and Bedroom Decorating Ideas about it?

Don't let the name of the Anthropologie Savannah Iris Bedding set fool you. The colors and pattern on the cover of this comforter is anything but something that you would find in Granny's backyard flower garden. I can only say that the old southern town in Georgia that this collection is named after must be much more fun and exciting than I ever imagined if the designer named this set after Savannah Georgia.

I happened up on this set searching for Hawaiian bedding that has a tropical floral print with large hibiscus flowers. But after seeing the Anthropologie Savannah Iris Bedding I'm very tempted to ditch that idea and see what I can do with the large, colorful print of this fabric. Before I jump in and start decorating I need for someone to email me and let me know if Iris grow in Hawaiian islands!

GIRLS' TROPICAL BEDDING

I am more than pleased to see girls tropical bedding sets that are designed according to the popular color combinations of the moment, black and pink and lime green, hot pink and black. The colors green and pink are old standbys and certainly to be expected to represent the leafy green foliage in a tropical rainforest and hot pink to cover the hibiscus flowers that grow wild in so many jungles.

Without a doubt, the new kid on the block in this color scheme is black. Even though many may argue that black is not a color at all; when you surround it with white and the other bright colors that I mentioned earlier who could ever accuse it of not playing an important part in this stylish mix?

And when it comes to being a leader in outstanding girls tropical bedding, Roxy Bedding
is out there leading the pack churning out tropical bedding sets that are a delightful blend of uninhibited Hawaiian floral and collegiate stripe prints. Their designers do such a wonderful job of matching fabrics with large flowers, medium floral prints, stripes and solids. With such a beautiful set of girls tropical bedding to work with, the task of collecting tropical bedroom decorating ideas that will pay proper respect to their delightful creation is there to challenge our imaginations and decorative skills.

GIRLS HAWAIIAN BEDDING SETS

Teenage girls Hawaiian bedding sets and bedroom decorations have come a long way from comforters covered in tropical hibiscus flowers and hula girls in grass skirts. Please don’t take that statement to imply that that particular style of Hawaiian bedroom decor is not fashionable; there is always a place for vintage hula girls when decorating a bedroom in an island theme.

In fact, some of the more trendy Hawaiian print bedding sets gives more than a casual nod to hula girls, their floral leis and most of all, their grass hula skirts.
Modern Hawaiian bed in a bag sets are known to be the least expensive way to dress up a girl’s bed with a comforter that brings to mind memories of a day spent on one of the island’s many secluded beaches.

These teenage girls Hawaiian bedding and comforter sets offer great value and eliminate the need to spend time shopping for bedroom curtains, sheets and the bed skirt separately. For the tween or teen girl that likes to change her bedroom’s décor at the drop of a hat, buying a bed in a bag may be the best way to go.

If you can find a girls Hawaiian bedding set that you like at a deep discount I’m certainly on board. To keep the room from looking like a copy of the pictures on the package that the comforter set came in, you should keep a watchful eye out for some unique, Hawaiian bedroom decorations to use to dress up the comforter set and window treatments that give the bedroom a personalized look.

Some ideas include replacing the bedskirt that came with your Hawaiian bed in a bag set with a fun and funky grass bed skirt. You can even buy raffia window toppers to match. Layer some floral leis over the top of your homemade valance to give it an authentic island look and your collection of hula girl figurines on the top of the cornice shelf and your Hawaiian bedroom décor will be so perfect that you can almost hear the waves splashing on the beach and the locals calling, Aloha! HAWAIIAN BEDROOM DECOR

A surefire way to get your teenage girl’s approval on Hawaiian bedroom decor is to use a Hibiscus bed set
that includes more than your classic tropical print. I know you thought that she would adore the wild colors of the flowers and the tropical, floral print fabric. But there’s something about most flowers that turns some teens off. They either think that it’s too babyish a design for a young lady of their mature age or they perceive floral print fabrics are TOO mature ala her grandmother’s parlor wallpaper kind of mature if you catch my drift.

If you feel the need to include Hibiscus comforters in your Hawaiian bedroom decor, you are going to have to be slick about it. I hate to tell you that the wild Hibiscus bed in a bag is probably not going to pass muster. The pretty tropical print fabric alone is not going to do the trick.

The key is to custom design your hibiscus bed set to appeal to kids rather than an adult. Keep the hibiscus comforter but toss the boring, solid color bed skirt, sheets and window treatments into the linen closet for another day.

Instead, buy a set of lime green polka dot bedding and sheets or a set of hot pink striped sheets with some extra flat sheets to use for mixing and matching. Use the bold printed sheets under your hibiscus comforter and use the extra flat sheets that you bought to sew some lime green polka dot curtains or at the very least some tie backs and a dust ruffle for the bed.

You will be amazed at how much more interesting your Hawaiian bedroom decor will be once you put these easy, affordable decorating ideas to work. The results are that you get to use the hibiscus bedding that you wanted and your daughter gets to enjoy one of the coolest Hawaiian bedroom decor on on the block.
