Oh yeah, who would have ever dreamed that some crafty soul would combine purple peace sign and zebra wall decor ideas! I've been known to successfully pull together two (or more) themes in my decorating days. I’m faced with a difficult decorating decision; should I used cheap peace sign bedding sets when I can find them and fill the rest of the room with rare collectibles? Or should I choose one of the more expensive peace sign comforters and scale the cost of the girl’s bedroom decorations back to allow for what I spent on a high end, organic set?

I suppose that what REALLY has me in a quandary is whether or not the teenage girl whose bedroom I am decorating is into organic fabrics that make a social statement like hemp? After all, she did specifically request that her bedding set be decorated with peace signs. Or will plain, old cotton fabrics suit her needs? Once upon a time I had a client who was really insulted that I did realize that she would only use organically grown cotton bed linens so maybe I am over thinking this. Most of the teenage girls that want peace sign bedding sets are happy as can be so long as the colors in the bed in a bag are bright and funky and more importantly that there is enough money to buy some groovy peace sign art to decorate the walls of the room.

And frankly, some of the more expensive bedding collections are just not as colorful as the cheap bed in a bag sets. Remember the days when groovy peace signs and bedding sets were the bedroom decor of choice preferred by flower children and unwashed hippies? My parents vaguely recall those days of protest and mistrust of anyone over thirty. I heard them discussing with some of their friends that they believed before last fall’s election that the tense political atmosphere almost seemed to be repeating itself but sadly they seemed to be overlooking the positive side of the 60s, namely the cool and colorful home decorations.

As for me, I can only say that I noticed a large increase in requests for decorating with hippie peace signs, tie dye and psychedelic flowers. After one or two such projects, I began to realize the limitations of posters and started looking for alternative art forms that might dish up some prospects for groovy peace signs that were more interesting and that would do to use as decorations in a teenage girl’s bedroom to be more specific.

In my search, I found lots of cool peace signs in forms that you would never dream of. But I like LARGE graphics and displays so two of my favorites were a peace sign shower curtain that had the emblem centered between a heart and a smiley face and a beaded peace sign beaded curtain that could be used as everything from a wall hanging or a room divider to a closet door. Both designs were big, but in neutral colors that would not detract from the wild colors in your tie dyed peace sign comforter set.

RETRO PEACE SIGN WALL DECORATING IDEAS

After finding several cool, retro comforter sets I began to wonder how to build more retro peace sign presence in my decorating projects. As I have mentioned before, there is more and more evidence that a slightly modern 60s flower power frame of mind is creeping into this decade.

First I will cut the heads off of large silk daisies (think Gerbera) and then I will stick the daisy blossoms on the wall of the bedroom in the shape of a large peace sign using adhesive. The cool thing about this is that I can hand pick the colors according to the retro peace sign comforter sets that my customer has selected to decorate her room.

I could easily find some vinyl flower power and tie-dyed peace sign wall stickers but I would not have as much control over the color scheme plus the decals are one dimensional rather then the eye popping 3D look that the artificial flowers give me.
