I'm having a difficult time convincing a mom that all girls' horse bedroom ideas do not have to be in pastel colors. If she picks out one more set of pink or purple horse bedding for kids her teen girl's head might just explode..closely followed by my own.

When decorating a horse theme bedroom for a little girl these colors are super. The same goes for a set of carousel horse baby bedding for a baby girl's nursery. But when girls hit their teenage years, they tend to shy away from color schemes that may be associated with their past and reach for something fresh and sassy!

I'm dying to use this set of twin horse bedding set with the red gingham bed skirt in a project. I can think of all sorts of horse bedroom ideas that will really show it off to full potential. And the gingham check inserts on the cowgirl boots are so CUTE! The problem is that I'm not sure that this is tween or teen girls bedding but I'm going to run it by this mom and daughter duo and see if they can reach a compromise.

This pink horse bedding will make your teenage girl want to RIDE SALLY RIDE just like the girl in Mustang Sally! I can't count the times that I've struggled with decorating a teenage cowgirl's equestrian theme bedroom simply because she loved horses but didn't want a brown color scheme in her room.

My client's daughter has insisted that I find some girls horse bedding sets for her to pick from for an upcoming bedroom makeover. Having decorated more than a few cowgirl bedrooms in the past few years alone, I am no stranger to the fact that many girls have an affection for barrel racing and rodeos and must confess to enjoying a day watching riding competitions and races myself from time to time.

Getting back to the issue of finding teenage girls horse bedding sets and comforters, the problem that I am facing is finding fabrics that include horsey stuff with color. I need a comforter set that will appeal to the decorative taste of a teenage girl. Meaning, this young lady (pre-teen or tween) was too old for rocking horse or carousel horse bedding but did not want a bedroom decorated in a style that was too masculine with nothing but tans and browns in the color scheme. And unfortunately wild horses don't come in a very broad range of colors.

So far, I've collected pictures of comforter with a stampede of rust color horses on a field of black and silver and a less lively set that has a light blue sky over a herd of paints that is a bed in a bag set. The first set that I mentioned could be the inspiration piece for a very sophisticated bedroom design where the second set is more of a traditional western girls horse bedding set.

I feel that I need one more set before I can make a presentation and work up my design board so today will be spent searching through the mall, catalogs and online. Keep your fingers crossed that I find something really cool today because I don't believe that the girls horse bedding sets that I've found so far are what we need. I don’t know about you, but I prefer the girls cowgirl bedding sets that I use in my bedroom decorating projects to be easily identified as feminine. In other words, I don’t care for completely gender neutral horse theme bedding sets.

And, frankly, there have been times when one lone comforter in pink was the best I could come up with no matter how far and wide I cast my net. How sad it is that manufacturers apparently make the assumption that all ladies who ranch (compared to ladies who lunch) are tomboys that don’t mind coming home to a bedroom decorated in a cowboy theme rather than a pretty set of cowgirl bedding.

There’s a place for horseshoes, cowboy hats, boots and of course pictures of your favorite horse in the bedroom of a girl who loves to barrel race, farm or dreams of farming. But I have often wondered how could a little lace in addition to the leather possibly hurt? The horse loving girls that I know would not mind some white eyelet on the edge of their bandanas a bit. A hot pink bandana print bedding set with a white or cream eyelet bed skirt and curtains are what I have in mind for the next teenage girl’s bedroom who says she wants cowgirl bedding. HORSE COMFORTERS - A HORSE LOVING TEEN GIRL'S DREAM

Horse comforters are nothing new for cowboys or cowgirls, but you have to admit that
bedding and comforter sets with horse prints have always had a predominantly masculine color scheme. Not so very long ago colors in horse bedding for girls could hardly be distinguished from comforter sets for boys' bedrooms. Now we see cute girls horse bedding sets with feminine details beyond horseshoes and leather tack.

When it came to decorating a horse bedroom for teenage girls, the best that we could do would be to brighten the room with some light, neutral colored window treatments and floor coverings to prevent the browns and blacks associated with the leather of the horse tack and horseshoe motifs from making the room dark as the inside of a barn and a whole lot less cheerful.

Thankfully, some fabric designer realized that the color of saddle leather and black iron looked fabulous when combined with shades of purple, lavender and pink or even yellow! Teenage girls don't have the need to get their horse comforters and bedding sets in the form of patchwork quilts or duvet covers and shams that have to be custom made any longer to be able to get a horse design on their barrel racing tween or pre-teen girl's horse bedding. Even inexpensive bed in a bag sets come with pictures of horses on the bedding and accessories. Your daughter can have a bedroom decorated in pretty ponies and you get the color scheme you dreamed of for her. It's a winner to all concerned parties.

Why am I so excited about decorating with horse print bedding sets? Do you really need to ask? Can you imagine a bed decorated with shams and pillows with pictures of horses in chocolate brown against a blue chambray or denim blue background? I think saddle blankets will be an excellent resource for decorating ideas for the window treatments and area rugs if I could just find a saddle blanket in blue to use for a custom window valance.


Your teenage daughter can dream of her next barrel race or equestrian competition with horses galloping around the bedskirt. I can see lots of aged leather chaps, boots, saddles and cowboy hats used as wall decorations and tabletop displays in this room. I'm not so sure I can appreciate shades of brown, tan and beige for teenage girl's rooms, but the combination of dark brown with girly pink might be cute! If colors of horseshoes, cowboy hats and saddles are your taste, then I would definitely go with dark brown pillows and stuff with a worn leather look and skip city slicker fabrics like satin or silk.
